5 Easy Steps to Turn MySpace into a Networking Machine For Your BusinessTip! If you are looking to expand your business and hire staff, business networking events are a good starting point for your exploration of the marketplace. You will be able to enter into conversations with potential employees and get clear on what your needs are. So raise your hand if you thought MySpace was basically a high school hangout in cyberspace. Ok, I can see that most of your hands are up and so was mine by the way. That's until I found out that more than half of the MySpace users are above the age of 35. According to an October article from Techweb, approximately 51.6% are over the age of 35. Add visitors age 25 or older and that number jumps to 68.3%. And it's still seeing 230,000 people sign up every day. So what does this all mean? MySpace has become a free and easy way to market your business or website to a massive audience. Below are 5 easy steps you can take to let MySpace jumpstart your business.
Step 1: Register for a free Myspace account. Ok, that one was easy, but some of you haven't even done that yet! Keep in mind, you are creating an account for your business. So use your business information where appropriate. Step 2: Create a profile for your business. When it says "About Me", write about your business. The profiles are designed for individuals, so you'll have to be creative in how you tailor your answers toward your business. Step 3: Start inviting friends to become part of your network. If your business is real estate, you can search for real estate agents, mortgage brokers or even people have real estate as an interest. You can be very selective in people you invite into your network and the more selective you are, the better the chance of those people accepting your request. Remember, some will say no, but so what? You can invite as many people to your network as you'd like - so don't be offended if someone says no. It's their loss! Tip! When you're business networking, the first thing to stop doing is thinking you're out to get something. You're not. Step 4: Post Bulletins. When you post a bulletin on Myspace, it shows up on the main page of everyone in your network! You can post events, special offers, a birthday wish, anything you'd like. But be careful; too many posts and people will start to get annoyed with you and eliminate you from their network. Use the rule-of-thumb of only posting bulletins when you really have something valuable to say or offer and you should stay clear of posting too often. Step 5: Check out other people's pages within your network. These people already have similar interests as you because they opted into your network. You can then view their friends and offer an opportunity for them to join your network. Isn't this fun?!? Now be careful, this activity can become slightly addicting and take you away from actually running your business. With these five steps in place, you can start building more traffic to your website, increase attendance to your events, sell more products and find an old friend or two along the way.
